Having just finished secondary education I had a range of options available to choose from for my future. I love living in Orkney and didn’t want to move away, and through word of mouth I heard about Graduate Apprenticeships. They are an on-the-job qualification which allow a person to work full time with one online learning day a week and still obtain an Honours degree at the end of it.
In my final year at school, I took part in the Young Enterprise program which allowed me to have the experience of running my own business with some of my classmates who were also interested in the business world, and it gave me an opportunity to give presentations, take part in meetings and work as part of a team.
I’m keen to put into practice the knowledge that I’ve learned both at school and my previous part time jobs, at MacGregor’s where I worked with a large variety of different of customers, and at my uncle’s small business – Orkney Hand Crafted Furniture which was more of a hands-on job that taught me to work to independently and to deadlines.
I am looking forward to being part of the CRC team as there will be many exciting projects coming up, and learning new skills from all of my colleagues will definitely provide me with a positive start to my career.
I am a very keen sportsman, so chances are in my free time I’ll be keeping fit whether it’s rugby, football, athletics or at the squash courts. I am also a qualified Scottish Football Referee.
