A background in accountancy led me on a career path from financial controller to managing director in the Orkney seafood industry where I worked for over 20 years, building up a wealth of experience and honing my problem-solving skills as challenges were never far away! In addition to the day job, my husband and I run our own business based in Stromness, The Island Smokery, so I have a real understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by companies of different scales.
I’ve spent my life in Orkney and have a real passion for the entrepreneurship that it seems to inspire. It really is a unique place to live and work. My involvement with the Orkney Food & Drink group, attending events such as the Good Food Show and the Royal Highland has been such an eye-opener in terms of the value of the Orkney brand, which extends to other sectors in hospitality, renewables, farming and so much more.
Working with the ambitious team at CRC and getting the opportunity to assist companies fulfil their own growth ambitions is exactly the place I want to be. I understand the commitment and passion business owners have, along with the stresses that the role can bring and the importance of keeping focused on the end goal, whatever that may be.
