Another exciting milestone in our journey, as we’ve reached a point where we’re needing a fresh pair of hands to get stuck into assisting our clients!

We’re looking for a Finance Assistant/Trainee Accountant ready to make a move away from box-ticking, and move into becoming a proactive, and valued member of our clients’ businesses.

So, if you’re fancying and change, and would like to get involved in shaping the future of our firm, and shaping the businesses of our clients, this might just be the role for you!

A bit about the role

Accurate data is key to great decision making.

We serve as an extension of the client’s existing finance team – whether it’s helping them with their data control and analysis, systems development & efficiency reviews, right through to strategy development and financial direction, to help move their business forward.

the requirements of the role will always be dynamic, and proactivity is the norm!

For this role, we’re looking for someone to assist with data preparation and control, including: bookkeeping, management accounts prep, assistance with financial forecasting, statutory accounts prep, and all other general aspects associated with a finance function!

You’ll work closely with all of our team, and in particular our Finance Director, ensuring we have the right information to hand to help clients make clever strategic decisions within their business.

The role is permanent, and ideally full-time.

However, if you'd prefer a part-time role, don't let this put you off - we're still willing to consider that, so feel free to apply.

As a small, growing business, every member of our team currently carries out a wide range of tasks over and above the core duties of their role – and this one will be no different!

One thing’s for sure; being part of a fast growing firm means that there’s always new, interesting projects being added to the mix, so the requirements of the role will always be dynamic, and proactivity is the norm!

Experience needed

Ideally you’ll already have spent some time working in either an accountancy practice, or within the finance department of a non-accountancy organisation.

However, if you haven’t got that experience yet – but can come up with a compelling reason for looking to join our team, we’ll be happy to consider your application!

If you already have an accountancy or business qualification/degree (or are part-qualified), that’s awesome, but it’s by no means necessary.

We know that experience often counts for more than qualifications alone.

Training will be provided for all aspects of the job. And if there are any further professional qualifications you’d like to study towards, we’ll be happy to pay and support you through those.

Fundamentally though, you'll have:

  • a keen eye for detail
  • an ability to problem solve, and
  • a desire to continually seek improvements in how we're doing things for our clients!

Where you’ll be based?

Whilst we do some remote working – including with our Finance Director, Adrian – this particular role will be based in our offices here in Orkney.

We currently work three days together in the office (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday), and two days at home (Tuesdays and Fridays). We find this is the perfect mix for collaborating when together, and giving us all headspace for concentration when working remotely.

We have clients across the UK, so there might be trips away now and again, as it’s always great to get out and meet them and their teams!

The package

We appreciate that the role is fairly wide ranging, but it goes without saying that you’ll be offered a competitive salary which will reflect your level of experience.

The other perks include:

  • Part of an awesome team! Can we list that as an official perk? Yeah, we reckon so!
  • 28 days annual leave
  • Flexible working – the contract is based on a 35 hour week, but some of the current team choose to spread this over a 9 day fortnight, meaning that every second week is a long weekend!
  • Personal health insurance
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • Formal training package, if desired/required
  • Plenty of time for personal and professional development; we’re a huge believer in this, and know we mustn’t always be nose to the grindstone! By making time for this development during the working day, it ensures we’re always developing new ideas which benefit our clients!
  • Involvement in the development of 42 Junction Road, our future offices which we'll share as a co-working space for local creatives and entrepreneurs.
  • Involvement in designing and hosting business networking events, and team days out.
  • Future employee ownership – we’re pushing to grow our business, and want all of our team to get the chance to share in the benefits of this growth!

As we grow, we’re always looking to add perks to the mix wherever we can, so this list is just a starter for 10!

How to apply?

We have three simple requests:

  1. Send us your CV – you expected that though!

  2. Send us your itinerary for our first Team Day Out (TDO) together – see below

  3. Send both of the above with a short video which:

    1. Introduces us to you

    2. Explains why you want to join the team

    3. Takes us through your TDO itinerary, and explaining why you’ve included the activities you’ve included!

All of these should be sent via WeTransfer using our link here.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS IS 31 AUGUST 2022
